Quote:I know what DCC is, well how it works, but I recently saw something about wireless. N scale trains can be run wirelessly with DCC, all common DCC systems have ways to connect wireless throttles or smart phones as throttles, so nothing to worry about on that front.DaveB

I used Atlas code 55 track for my previous N scale layout and was very happy with it, nice long turnouts available and easy to install.

If you are really ambitious and willing to learn some advanced techniques you could consider a two deck layout to extend the running length but that is a lot more complicated. I think the first thing to do would be to decide on your minimum radius then use graph paper to scale in some possible layout plans, see what could fit where and how much you can include. There are lots of passing sidings so plenty of train meets could be made, and you get the bonus of SP and Santa Fe main line traffic (or UP and BNSF if modeling newer era). The only negative of the loop is there is no industry on the hill so no real switching. You would have to be selective as to what to include to capture the feel of the area. I think 12 by 12 feet could be room for a nice layout of the loop and tracks leading up to it and on to the summit. Hi Ken, Tehachapi is one of my favorite train watching spots, I'll be interested in what you come up with.

I think I will run maybe 3 different trains, but probably 2 main and a 3rd working the yard with about 5-7 cars per train.I am thinking of using Atlas 65 / flex track because I recognize the name from my youth, it seems pretty common and available, doesn't seem to be expensive, and finally why not? Your thoughts, please. Are any good online articles worth reading to help me with that?
#Youtube anyrail 6 how to
My biggest mental obstacle is figuring out how to layout a parallel track, especially on a curb.Is there a better program for designing I should be using? Currently, I am experimenting with a trial version of AnyRail designer for track layout. So I have a few questions to get things rolling. I think it is more than enough room to set up an N scale Tehachapi Pass, California model.

The most recent debate is the availability of a 12x12 bedroom. So as my wife and I become "empty-nesters," there is more and more house to claim.
